Indian Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra will be on an official visit to Bangladesh

Indian Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra will be on an official visit to Bangladesh from February 15-16, at the invitation of Bangladesh Foreign Secretary Masood Bin Momen. In a press release, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) mentioned that the upcoming visit of FS Kwatra will further strengthen bilateral relations and give impetus to the ongoing cooperation in diverse fields.

Additionally, the MEA also said that the two foreign secretaries will review all aspects of bilateral relations including political, security, water, trade & investment, power & energy, defence, connectivity and sub-regional cooperation. FS Kwatra’s visit to Bangladesh is in line with India’s ‘Neighbourhood First Policy’. Bangladesh is a development partner of India and the largest trading partner in the region. India’s relations with Bangladesh in the neighbourhood are strong, given the historical nature of the relationship.

India was the first country to recognise Bangladesh and establish diplomatic relations, and played a pivotal role in its independence journey. The two countries have been working on several connectivity projects, and during the COVID-19 pandemic, India supported Bangladesh by sending vaccines. This visit solidifies the pre-existing relationship between India and Bangladesh.
