The Indian Express Group, in collaboration with the Lodha Foundation, has officially announced the launch of Screen Academy — a pioneering not-for-profit initiative aimed at nurturing emerging voices in Indian cinema. The Academy will annually provide fully-funded postgraduate fellowships to exceptional students nominated by India’s leading film schools, including FTII Pune, SRFTI Kolkata, and Whistling Woods International, Mumbai.
Backed by leading industry figures such as Oscar winners Guneet Monga and Resul Pookutty, Cannes Grand Prix winner Payal Kapadia, and producer Ronnie Screwvala, the initiative will also offer mentorship, masterclasses, and internships. The Screen Academy will additionally take charge of the prestigious Screen Awards, ensuring transparent and expert-driven recognition of cinematic excellence.
This initiative is poised to open doors for young, creative talent in Tripura and the wider Northeast. With a growing interest in digital media, film, and local storytelling, aspiring filmmakers in Agartala now have a credible national platform to elevate their voices. The launch reinforces The Indian Express Group’s commitment to India’s cultural future and positions Screen as a leader in shaping the country’s creative ecosystem.
