Kurmi movement is getting stronger. Kurmi community should be brought under Scheduled Tribes. Sarna religion should be recognized. Kurmali language should be included in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution. On several such demands, continuous movement is going on in the western part of the state. Indefinite rail-road blockade has started in West Medinipur-Purulia-Bankura.
Today is the third day of the movement. The Kurmi community is adamant about their claim. Due to the agitation, the movement of trains in the Adra division of Purulia is disrupted even today. Passengers are in dire straits. Adra Division informed that already 58 trains of Adra Purulia branch have been cancelled. 4 trains have been diverted. Meanwhile, the Kurmi community has informed that if the demands are not met, the Kotshila station of the Purulia-Ranchi railway and the Purulia-Ranchi national highway will be blocked from Sunday. Tuhin Mahato, State Youth Secretary of Adivasi Kurmi Samaj said that they will go for a larger movement in the coming days. Khemashuli National Highway No. 6 of West Medinipur is blocked due to the movement of tribal Kurmi society. The agitators first marched on the national highway this morning. After that, they started their protest program after sleeping at Khemashuli station. Rail services were suspended as a result of the railway blockade by the tribal Kurmi community for 5 consecutive days from 20 September 2022.
