During a mistake-filled Sunday at the Madrid Spain Masters Super 300 badminton competition, Indonesia’s Gregoria Mariska Tunjung absolutely outplayed two-time Olympic medalist P V Sindhu of India to win the women’s singles title.
After a string of early exits after her return from a five-month injury layoff, Sindhu fell out of the top 10 and looked absolutely lost as she was destroyed by world No. 12 Tunjung at Centro Deportivo Municipal Gallur, 8-21, 8-21.
Despite having a commanding 7-0 lead over the 23-year-old Indonesian before the finals, Sindhu appeared to be a pale imitation of her former self as the chance to win her first championship in eight months slipped away.
