In Nagaland, the adult HIV/AIDS prevalence rate is 1.36 percent

According to the state’s Economic Survey 2023-24, Nagaland has a 1.36 percent HIV/AIDS prevalence rate among adults aged 15 to 49, which is much higher than the 0.2% nationwide prevalence rate. The Economic Survey 2023–24 reports that the prevalence of HIV/AIDS in the general population is 1.61 percent. According to the data, 33,396 people in Nagaland tested positive for HIV between 2006 and 2023 after almost 16 lakh blood samples were screened throughout that time. HIV was detected in 1.17 percent of all blood samples tested in 2023–2024. Additionally, MBP Nevirapine is being used to treat 14.83 percent of patients who tested positive for HIV.

Up to 2.06 percent of children under 14 who had blood tests in 2023–2024 tested positive for HIV. According to the study data, 53.70 percent of the children under 14 who tested positive for HIV were male, and 46.30 percent were female. A total of 1,385 children (2099%) under the age of 14 tested positive for HIV between October 2007 and November 2023. According to the Economic Survey report, there were 26,419 HIV-positive patients enrolled at the Antiretroviral medication Centre (ARTC), 21,110 of them were receiving antiretroviral medication (ART). Of those receiving ART, 3,116 had passed away.

Additionally, it stated that 748 youngsters, including 370 girls, are HIV + and on ART, 6,205 men, 6,332 women, and 12 transgender/transsexual people are all surviving. However, because of coordinated efforts, the adult HIV prevalence is now 0.2%, and an estimated 66,400 new HIV infections occur each year. Since 2010, the annual number of new HIV infections has dropped by 44%, surpassing the global decline rate of 39%.
