The Capital Convention Centre in Kohima, Nagaland, hosted the 10th anniversary celebration of the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) initiative, which is under Mission Shakti, Social Welfare Department. As the event’s special guest, Martha R. Ritse, Commissioner and Secretary of the Social Welfare Department, underlined the importance of social and behavioral change in influencing how girls are viewed. Although she recognized that Naga culture has made significant progress in empowering girls, she pointed out that minor adjustments are still required to attain full gender equality.
She went on to say that BBBP is a program for the advancement of women in all spheres of society, not simply for their empowerment in particular fields. She referred to the plan as a “multi-sectoral scheme” and underlined the need of departments coming together to improve cooperation and advance the goals of the plan, both in law and spirit. The distinguished visitors and attendance were cordially received by Bodeno S. Colo, Secretary of the Social Welfare Department and Mission Director of Mission Shakti.
Kumar Ramnikant, IAS, the Deputy Commissioner of Kohima, underlined that all societal players must work together if India is to fulfill its goal of being a developed country by 2040. In Kohima district, the deputy commissioner emphasized the BBBP scheme’s numerous workshops, job counseling, and free coaching sessions, emphasizing heightened cooperation with development boards and village councils.
