Imphal is set to host the Fit India Carnival 2026 from March 8 to March 10, bringing together citizens, students and fitness enthusiasts for a three-day celebration of health, wellness and community participation. The event will begin with a Mega Sundays on Cycle rally on March 8 at Khuman Lampak Sports Complex to mark International Women’s Day, followed by a two-day carnival at Hapta Kangjeibung, Palace Compound.
The programme is being organised under the nationwide Fit India Movement, launched by the Prime Minister on August 29, 2019, to make fitness an integral part of daily life and promote behavioural change towards a healthier and more physically active society.
The opening cycle rally aims to encourage greater participation of women and young people in cycling and outdoor activities. The carnival on March 9 and 10 will feature a range of activities including Zumba sessions, yoga workshops, structured exercise routines and interactive fitness challenges conducted by certified trainers and fitness experts. Traditional games and regionally inspired activities will also be part of the programme to ensure participation from people of all age groups.
The carnival will also include cultural performances highlighting the diversity of the Northeast, along with music and entertainment segments to create a festive atmosphere.
Officials from the Sports Authority of India, North-East Regional Centre (SAI NERC), Imphal, said the programme aims to bring communities together through the shared spirit of fitness and well-being. “Beginning with the Mega Sundays on Cycle rally on International Women’s Day and followed by two days of carnival activities, the event seeks to inspire people across Manipur to adopt active and healthy lifestyles,” the official said.
Imphal is also expected to see positive momentum during the event, as increased footfall from students, families and visitors attending the carnival could benefit local vendors, food stalls, sports goods outlets and small businesses around the city. Traders believe such large public events often boost weekend sales and help promote fitness-related products and services.
The event is expected to draw large participation from the community, further strengthening the reach of the Fit India Movement across Manipur and the wider Northeast region.
