Imphal residents get 11-hour curfew break

Authorities in Imphal East and Imphal West have announced a temporary relaxation of the curfew in place, offering residents an 11-hour window on Saturday to stock up on essential goods. The curfew, imposed under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, will be eased from 5 a.m. to 4 p.m. to facilitate the purchase of food, medicines, and other necessities.

This measure, effective since September 1, was implemented in response to ongoing tensions and disturbances in the region. The district magistrates emphasized that the curfew relaxation is strictly limited to essential activities. Large gatherings, protests, or any form of unlawful assembly will continue to be prohibited during this period.

Furthermore, passengers traveling to and from the airport are exempt from curfew restrictions, ensuring uninterrupted movement for travelers. Exemptions also extend to essential service workers, including those in healthcare, power supply, water, and media. The curfew remains in force outside of the relaxation hours, as authorities continue efforts to restore normalcy in the affected districts.
