Illicit poppy cultivation on 45 acre destroyed in Manipur

Illicit poppy cultivation on 45 acre of land was destroyed in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district, CM N Biren Singh said. The operation was carried out on Friday in Lhungjang village hill range in Saikul police station area by the district police and CRPF in the presence of an executive magistrate, he said.

FIRs have been lodged for further action in connection with this, he added. Earlier on Friday, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh said that 4.49 acres of poppy fields were destroyed in Noney district.

“Security forces struck a major blow to drug cartels in Noney district, destroying 4.49 acres of illicit poppy plantations today, Singh said in a post on X. “The operation was led by Noney District Police, along with a joint forest team from Noney and Tamenglong, in the Nurathel village hill range under Noney Police Station,” the post said.
