Congress legislature party leader Keisham Meghachandra Singh declared that the budgetary allocation of Rs 734 crore for internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Manipur due to recent ethnic strife is inadequate to address their losses. During the budget discussion for 2026-27, Singh emphasized the government’s obligation to compensate IDPs for damage to their homes, properties, vehicles, and businesses. He questioned the distribution of Rs 350 crore allocated for a women’s empowerment scheme in the state. Chief Minister Y Khemchand Singh acknowledged the insufficiency of the Rs 734 crore allocation, which is set to extend over the financial years 2023-24, 2024-25, and 2025-26. The chief minister also indicated that efforts are in progress to announce details regarding the women’s empowerment initiative, with the budget aimed at facilitating rehabilitation for those affected by the ethnic unrest.
