Historic moment for Assam: FIFA World Cup 2026 trophy coming to Guwahati on January 13

On January 13, the FIFA World Cup 2026 Trophy will be exhibited at the Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati, marking a historic first for the Northeast region of India. Assam’s Minister of Sports and Youth Welfare, Nandita Gorlosa, announced at a media conference that the trophy will arrive in Guwahati at 10 AM and will be showcased to the public starting at 3 PM. The exhibition is significant as it represents the trophy’s return to India for public viewing after a 12-year hiatus. The official inauguration ceremony will take place at 8:30 PM, officiated by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. Accompanying the event, a cultural program will feature performances by artists, including singers Shankuraj Konwar and Rito Riba, commencing at 3 PM on the Coke Studio stage. This event serves as a key milestone for Assam and the entire Northeast, aiming to enhance the region’s visibility on the international football stage and inspire local football enthusiasts.
