Mayank Chakraborty from Assam has made history by becoming the Northeast’s first Chess Grandmaster, achieving this title at just 16 years of age. He secured his final Grandmaster norm during the Eighth GM Tournament held at Hotel Stockholm North, Sweden, where he showcased an outstanding performance, finishing first with a total of seven points out of nine possible. By decisively defeating top-ranked opponents and maintaining an unbeaten record in his final rounds, he surpassed the required 2500 FIDE rating to be officially recognized as a Grandmaster.
