Himanta Biswa Sarma leads massive rally to file nomination for Jalukbari seat

In a display of political strength, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma led a large rally to file his nomination papers for the upcoming Assembly elections from the Jalukbari constituency in Guwahati. The procession commenced from the Veterinary College ground at Khanapara, traversing GS Road, and concluded at the Kamrup (Metro) District Commissioner’s office around 12:30 pm, where he submitted his nomination. He was joined by his wife Riniki Bhuyan Sarma, son Nandil Sarma, Guwahati MP Bijulee Kalita Medhi, and Guwahati Mayor Mrigen Sarania. Prior to the rally, Sarma sought blessings from his mother, Mrinalini Devi.

The event was marked by enthusiastic supporters, many of whom engaged in dancing and singing, alongside displaying large cutouts of the BJP’s lotus election symbol and caricatures of Sarma dressed as Superman. After submitting his documents, Sarma expressed confidence in winning the Jalukbari seat once again, referencing his long-standing representation of the area since 2001. He asserted that the BJP is poised to maintain power in Assam for a third consecutive term, citing public support. Sarma indicated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to deliver four campaign rallies post-March 24, while Union Home Minister Amit Shah will conduct 6-8. He acknowledged that some party leaders may be dissatisfied with their nominations but committed to discussing and encouraging them to support the party’s candidates.
