High-risk cardiac surgery at Amrita Hospital boosts healthcare interest

Amrita Hospital, Faridabad, has successfully completed a high-risk coronary artery bypass surgery (CABG) on a 57-year-old patient from Nagaland, showcasing its expanding role in India’s advanced tertiary care landscape. The patient, Mr. Akuminba, was admitted in critical condition with multiple comorbidities—Type 2 Diabetes, chronic hypertension, severe renal dysfunction requiring dialysis, and a history of Acute Coronary Syndrome following a failed angioplasty.

Following an initial evaluation by Dr. Urmila Anandh, urgent dialysis was initiated, and the patient was referred to Dr. Sameer Bhate, Head of Cardiothoracic & Vascular Surgery, who led a team to perform a complex triple-vessel CABG procedure. Despite a dangerously low ejection fraction (30–35%) and diabetes-induced blindness in one eye, the surgery was successful. Post-operative care was meticulously managed by cardiac ICU staff and specialists.

Healthcare sector has noted a sharp uptick in interest toward out-of-state medical referrals, particularly for cardiac and renal cases. Local facilitators report a growing awareness among families seeking reliable outcomes in super-specialty hospitals like Amrita. While Mr. Akuminba remains on dialysis, doctors are now considering him fit for a kidney transplant. His case underlines the potential of coordinated, multi-disciplinary care in high-risk patient management.
