HDFC ERGO brings hope to Tripura farmers with new crop insurance scheme for Kharif 2024

HDFC ERGO General Insurance Company has been granted permission by the Tripura government to implement the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) for both loanee and non-loanee farmers in the state. The scheme will be available for various crops in the districts of Dhalai, Gomati, Khowai, South Tripura, Sepahijala, West Tripura, Unakoti, and North Tripura during the Kharif 2024 season.

PMFBY provides insurance coverage against losses in crop yield due to external factors like drought, floods, pests, and diseases. To assess yield losses, the state government will conduct crop cutting experiments. If the yield data indicates a shortfall, farmers will be eligible for claims.

The scheme covers all stages of the crop cycle, including pre-sowing, harvesting, and post-harvest. Farmers can obtain insurance coverage through their banks, Common Service Centres (CSCs), or authorized HDFC ERGO agents. The validity period for obtaining insurance will be announced on the Department of Agriculture’s website.
