HCLFoundation drives coastal cleanup across six states, engages 2,400+ volunteers

In celebration of International Coastal Cleanup Day 2024, HCLFoundation, the CSR arm of HCLTech, led a large-scale coastal cleanup across six Indian states—Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Odisha, Kerala, West Bengal, and Karnataka. Over 2,426 volunteers, including HCLTech employees and community members, participated in this effort, collecting 18,485 kg of waste to combat marine pollution.

Collaborating with organizations such as the Tamil Nadu Forest Department and MS Swaminathan Research Foundation, the initiative underscored HCLFoundation’s commitment to preserving marine ecosystems. “This initiative goes beyond a one-day cleanup. We aim to spark a long-term movement for environmental protection,” said Dr. Nidhi Pundhir, Senior Vice President, Global CSR, HCLFoundation.

The initiative holds significant relevance for Kolkata, as West Bengal’s coastal and marine trade sectors rely heavily on healthy ecosystems. Local industries benefit from cleaner coasts, which support fisheries and tourism, bolstering the region’s economic growth. HCLFoundation’s coastal conservation efforts have resulted in the removal of 1,35,000 kg of marine debris and the plantation of over 828,100 mangrove saplings, rejuvenating 220 acres of coastal land.
