HC Imposes Time-Bound Targets to Speed Up Shillong Airport Expansion Work

The Meghalaya High Court has set firm deadlines for the state government and the Airports Authority of India (AAI) to expedite the Shillong Airport expansion project. The court instructed the Ri-Bhoi Deputy Commissioner to complete the purchase of 11.75 acres of land by January 10, 2026, and for the Transport Department to transfer it to AAI by January 31, 2026. The bench highlighted the need to clear obstacles along the airport’s flight path within four months and urged AAI to expedite approvals from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). AAI must complete technical evaluations by December 31, 2025. The court emphasized the project’s significance to public welfare and ordered compliance reports for the next hearing.
