Guwahati to Host National Textiles Ministers’ Conference Starting Tomorrow

The National Textiles Ministers’ Conference 2026, hosted by the Ministry of Textiles in partnership with the Government of Assam, is set to begin tomorrow, January 8, in Guwahati. The Conference, which spans two days and carries the theme “India’s Textiles: Weaving Growth, Heritage & Innovation,” aims to gather Textile Ministers and senior officials from various States and Union Territories of India. This event serves as a vital platform to discuss key issues related to policy-making, investment, sustainability, export strategies, infrastructure development, and technological advancements within the textile sector. In line with the country’s ambition to establish India as a global textile manufacturing hub by 2030, the Conference is aligned with the government’s vision that emphasizes boosting exports, creating employment opportunities, and fostering inclusive growth, reflecting the principle of “Vikas Bhi, Virasat Bhi.”

The inaugural session will witness the presence of prominent dignitaries, including the Union Minister of Textiles, Giriraj Singh, the Chief Minister of Assam, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, and the Minister of State for Textiles, Pabitra Margherita, alongside other notable figures. This session will also mark the opening of an Exhibition and Pavilion that will highlight India’s textile capabilities, innovations, and rich cultural heritage.

Key sessions at the Conference will address various thematic areas such as Infrastructure and Investment, Expanding India’s Textile Exports, Raw Materials and Fibres, Technical Textiles and New-Age Fibres, alongside efforts to Preserve and Promote Handlooms and Handicrafts. Emphasis will be placed on important initiatives like the PM Mega Integrated Textile Regions and Apparel (PM MITRA) Parks, sustainability measures, technical textile advancements, innovation pursuits, and the development of integrated value chains.

The Conference anticipates participation from ministers and officials across the nation, who will share best practices, discuss challenges, and propose policies intended to enhance the textile value chain at regional and district levels. Furthermore, a devoted conclave titled “Strengthening and Empowering the Textiles Sector of the North-Eastern Region of India” will take place tomorrow. This conclave will involve Textile Ministers from North-Eastern States, Members of Parliament, and senior officials from both the Centre and State levels. Its focus will be to tap into the potential of the North-East’s silk, handloom, handicrafts, and bamboo-based textiles, with an emphasis on Eri, Muga, and Mulberry silk, women-led enterprises, as well as branding and improving market access.

Overall, the National Textiles Ministers’ Conference is anticipated to bolster collaboration between the Centre and the States and establish a clear roadmap for a textile sector that is competitive, sustainable, and inclusive.
