Guwahati Startup BitChem Clinches Sustainability Award at Build India Infra 2026

BitChem Asphalt Technologies Limited, based in Guwahati, has been distinguished with the “Sustainable Material Innovation of the Year” accolade at the Build India Infra Awards 2026 for its innovative product, Green Bitumen, a pollution-free and zero-emission road binder. This recognition highlights BitChem’s significant role in promoting sustainable, energy-efficient road construction practices in India, particularly illustrated by their successful implementation in a 51 km project for the Road Construction Department of the Government of Bihar. The company, supported by the Technology Development Board of the Indian Ministry of Science & Technology, appreciates the guidance from Secretary TDB, Shri Rajesh Pathak.

The award ceremony was graced by Shri Nitin Gadkari, the Hon’ble Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways, alongside Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, Union Minister for Ports, Shipping & Waterways, emphasizing the national importance of such innovations. Green Bitumen represents a cutting-edge cold-mix binder technology designed to replace traditional hot-mix asphalt, effectively cutting down on fuel usage, avoiding greenhouse gas emissions, and eliminating on-site air pollution while ensuring the durability and high performance of road assets.

Mr. SK Jain, Chairman of BitChem, expressed that this recognition validates their ongoing commitment to establishing scalable road construction solutions anchored in a Net Zero and Circular Economy framework for India. He noted that Green Bitumen exemplifies the potential of sustainable materials to provide both ecological advantages and robust performance in practical applications. This technology emerges as a notable innovation from Northeast India, which aligns with the Vision of “Viksit Bharat” as promoted by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi.
