Guwahati Gets 1.05-km Flyover as CM Launches Key Urban Infrastructure Project

In a significant move to alleviate traffic congestion in Guwahati, Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated the Dinesh Goswami Flyover in the Bharalumukh area on Wednesday evening. This project, which cost Rs. 99 crore and was funded through the collaboration of state and central governments, spans a total length of 1.05 kilometers. The flyover will facilitate uninterrupted vehicular movement over the railway line, reduce accidents at crossings, and greatly mitigate traffic issues at the Bharalumukh traffic confluence. It is named in honor of Late Dinesh Goswami, a former Union Minister.

Additionally, the Chief Minister inaugurated the Saraighat War Memorial at Panbazar and laid the foundation stone for the expansion of the Brahmaputra Riverfront Park. The third phase of the park, covering approximately 2.5 acres, includes a main feature—a pond with a musical fountain—aimed at enhancing the city’s aesthetics while integrating nature with modernity. Alongside this pond, a memorial has been constructed to commemorate the brave warriors who fought in the Battle of Saraighat against the Mughals, following a design inspired by the traditional Ahom architectural style of Upper Assam. This memorial inscribes the names of 132 martyrs, honoring their valor and sacrifice.

During the event, the Chief Minister also shared future plans to preserve the former official residence of the chief justice of the Gauhati High Court as a heritage site and to establish a textile museum in that location, further contributing to the cultural fabric of the region.
