Gunfire attack took place in Imphal just after ‘Peace Talk’

A gunfire exchange between two groups occurred in Koutruk village, Imphal West district, on Thursday, less than two days after peace talks were held between Meitei and Kuki legislators in Delhi, police reported. Assailants launched the attack from the hills of Kangpokpi district, targeting the low-lying Koutruk village.

Village volunteers responded with retaliatory fire. Fortunately, no injuries or damage were reported during the incident. Security forces were swiftly deployed to the area to prevent further escalation, although tensions remain high. Koutruk village has faced multiple attacks in recent weeks, including a drone bomb strike last month.

The gunfire followed talks held in Delhi between Meitei and Kuki MLAs, aimed at resolving the 17-month-long ethnic conflict. The meeting, facilitated by the Ministry of Home Affairs, included BJP MP Sambit Patra and Naga community representatives, in hopes of fostering dialogue and achieving peace.
