Nagaland Governor La Ganesan honored veterans of the 1971 Indo-Pak War and paid homage to the parents of Kargil war hero Capt N Kenguruse, MVC (Posthumous), during a Vijay Diwas celebration at Zakhama Military Station on December 16. The event, organized by the Indian Army’s Red Shield Division, was a tribute to the sacrifices of India’s brave soldiers. Governor Ganesan laid a wreath at the Orchid War Memorial to honor the fallen heroes who gave their lives for the nation.
The ceremony featured vibrant cultural performances reflecting the patriotic and traditional spirit of Nagaland. Students from Loyola School, Zakhama, presented a traditional Galo dance and an evocative mime performance, leaving the audience inspired. Soldiers of the Red Shield Division added to the event’s fervor with an electrifying Khukri dance, symbolizing their valor and indomitable spirit. Governor Ganesan also took the opportunity to interact with serving soldiers and their families, recognizing their invaluable contribution to the nation’s defense. The presence of Veer Naris and war veterans further underscored the solemnity and significance of the occasion.
Vijay Diwas, observed annually on December 16, commemorates India’s decisive victory over Pakistan in the 1971 war, leading to the creation of Bangladesh. The event at Zakhama Military Station served as a reminder of the sacrifices made by the armed forces and their enduring legacy of courage and patriotism.
