Personnel of the Village Defence Force (VDF) in Heirok have provided financial assistance to the family of the late Laishram Budha, who passed away on December 28, following a prolonged illness. Laishram Budha, the son of Laishram Tampha and a VDF member, left behind a wife, Laishram Ongbi Suni. In a gesture of solidarity, the VDF personnel collectively raised a sum of ₹1,38,500, which was presented to his wife in a ceremony led by Khumanthem Gunadhor, the Commander of VDF Heirok E-Company. Gunadhor emphasized that the VDF has a tradition of offering financial support to the families of deceased members to alleviate household difficulties, and he assured that such assistance would continue, including educational support for the deceased’s children.
Moreover, Gunadhor called on the Manipur Government to provide financial compensation or assistance for families of VDF personnel who die in service, noting the lack of existing provisions for such support. He underscored the commitment of VDF members in maintaining peace and security while highlighting the need for governmental aid. The VDF was established in 2008 in response to public demands for enhanced security, following a tragic shooting incident during the Yaosang festival that resulted in multiple fatalities. The financial assistance event was also attended by commanders from various companies within the VDF, showcasing a united community effort to support bereaved families.
