Goodwill and Unity Key to Strong Society: MLA Olish

On International Women’s Day 2026, the Manipur State Commission for Women (MSCW) celebrated the strength and resilience of women at the Sangai Conference Hall in Hotel Imphal under the theme “Give to Gain.” Dr. SS Olish, MLA for the 41-Chandel (ST) Assembly Constituency, highlighted the importance of recognizing women’s roles and responsibilities in society, expressing that each woman should take pride in her identity and contribute to the community and state. She emphasized that a world without women is incomplete and called for nurturing goodwill, unity, and understanding among women to pave the way for lasting peace in Manipur.

Dr. Olish urged women to embrace their inherent qualities of kindness and compassion to foster dialogue and resolve conflicts peacefully rather than escalating them. She expressed concern over instances of women undermining one another and called for solidarity and mutual respect to uplift and empower each other. The MLA encouraged women to make a positive impact, showcasing the strength and exemplary character of women in Manipur.

Thumlip Tiningpham Monsang, Chairperson of MSCW, affirmed the crucial role of women in fostering a peaceful and progressive society. She noted that the observance of International Women’s Day aimed to inspire and uplift women by recognizing their contributions to society. Monsang stressed the theme “Give to Gain,” inviting everyone to lend support to women in need, highlighting the significance of collective effort.

W. Phajatombi Devi, Member Secretary of MSCW, noted the inclusive nature of the celebration, ensuring participation from diverse communities. She acknowledged the support of men and encouraged a culture of recognition and celebration of women’s achievements. Several former members of MSCW also received recognition during the event.

The program included a documentary featuring prominent women from various fields discussing the significance of International Women’s Day. The event saw attendance from MSCW members, legal advisors, and women adorned in traditional attire, all contributing to a celebration of women’s achievements and their role in society.
