Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in the Global Buddhist Summit jointly organized by the Ministry of Culture and the International Buddhist Confederation (IBC). Addressing the inaugural session, he said that the teachings of Lord Buddha are the basis of solutions to the biggest challenges facing the world, including war, economic instability, terrorism and climate change. The Buddha, centuries ago provided a solution to war and unrest that the world is currently grappling with.
The session was attended by Union Ministers of Culture, Law, and State for Culture, as well as Ministers of State for Culture Arjun Ram Meghwal and Meenakshi Lekhi. The Prime Minister visited a photo exhibition and offered flowers to the Buddha statue. He also offered monk’s robes to 19 eminent monks, including representatives from Bangladesh, Bhutan, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, South Korea, Australia and Mexico.

Minister of State for External Affairs, Meenakshi Lekhi after concluding the first day of the Summit tweeted, “With participation of eminent scholars, Sangha leaders and Dharma practitioners from all over the world, the summit will also trace India’s centuries-old cultural linkages with the countries in South, South-East and East Asia.”
