GLIPs initiative launched in Mizoram’s Mamit and Lunglei districts by Agriculture Minister

In a move aimed at bolstering sustainable agricultural practices, PC Vanlalruata, the Minister of Agriculture, distributed essential equipment for Green Landscape Information Platforms (GLIPs) to 17 high-priority villages under the Green-Ag project. The distribution ceremony took place at the Minister’s Office Chamber at MINECO, Aizawl. The GLIPs were allocated to 13 villages in Mamit District and four villages in Lunglei District, strategically located in the buffer zones of the Dampa Tiger Reserve and Thorangtlang Wildlife Sanctuary, respectively.

The event also served as a platform for Green-Ag project staff to highlight achievements, emphasizing community engagement and awareness-building efforts in sustainable land management practices. The Green-Ag project in Mizoram aims to educate and involve communities in the conservation and sustainable management of green landscapes. It employs a targeted communication strategy tailored to local landscapes, ensuring information meets specific regional needs. A cornerstone of the project, the GLIPs will function as information hubs and discussion forums at the village level. Each equipped with internet-connected computers and audio-visual facilities, these platforms will be overseen by Village Implementation Committees (VICs) chaired by Village Council Presidents.

Key services offered by GLIPs include information on protected areas, biodiversity, weather forecasts, soil health, and livestock management. They also provide literature on eco-friendly farming practices, extension services, market prices, and technical advice crucial for farmers, especially during challenging climatic conditions.
