Tata Trusts has launched a new initiative, ‘Gaanth Pe Dhyaan’, to raise awareness about the importance of breast self-examination for the early detection of breast cancer. The initiative, part of the ‘Kaise Ka Cancer’ campaign, was launched through a unique event hosted at the Dibrugarh Cancer Centre in Assam, a unit of the Assam Cancer Care Foundation.
The initiative, which was first launched at Ranchi Cancer Hospital and Research Centre, and then conducted at Tata Medical Center in Kolkata, and Sri Venkateswara Institute of Cancer Care & Advanced Research in Tirupati, aims to build awareness, encourage open conversations, and drive community action towards breast cancer.
The campaign draws inspiration from the care women put into cooking, urging women to self-examine their breasts regularly for any signs of a “gaanth” (lump) that could potentially be cancerous. The initiative has seen its fourth edition conducted in Dibrugarh, in partnership with MasterChef Season 7 Runner-up, Chef Santa Sarmah. Over 150 women registered for breast cancer screening at the Dibrugarh Cancer Care facility. Dr. Nabajyoti Choudhury, Medical Director & Unit Head at Dibrugarh Cancer Centre, highlighted the North-East’s high cancer incidence and the late diagnosis of breast cancer.
