From Headhunting to Beatboxing, Nagaland’s story premieres in UK

The acclaimed documentary Headhunting to Beatboxing, which chronicles Nagaland’s cultural shift from tribal warfare to musical revival, is set to make its UK debut at the UK Asian Film Festival in London on May 3.

Produced by Oscar and Grammy winner A.R. Rahman and directed by Rohit Gupta, the documentary will be screened at the prestigious BFI Southbank at 2:30 pm. The film explores how music has reshaped Nagaland’s image, showcasing its vibrant tribal heritage and creative spirit.

“Music has the power to connect and transform societies,” Rahman said during the film’s unveiling at the 77th Cannes Film Festival. The film has already won praise at its world premiere at the Melbourne Film Festival, where Rahman received the Excellence in Cinema Award.

Adviser to Nagaland Chief Minister, Abu Metha, who supported the project, said, “The real heroes are the musicians of Nagaland whose art tells stories of the past and reflects the aspirations of today’s youth.”
