For thousands of small entrepreneurs across Assam, a new partnership promises bigger markets and modern tools. Walmart Vriddhi, through its program partner Ideas to Impact Foundation, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Department of Industries, Commerce and Public Enterprises, Government of Assam to support the growth of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
The initiative aligns with Walmart Vriddhi’s national goal of empowering an additional 100,000 MSMEs by 2028. Under the agreement, local businesses will receive free training, mentoring and business tools to modernise and scale operations, including onboarding to eCommerce platforms such as Flipkart. The state government will expand outreach through District Industries Centres to ensure entrepreneurs across districts can participate.
The programme will focus on bamboo, cane, handloom and food processing sectors, with rollout in Kamrup, Sonitpur, Cachar, Dibrugarh, Tinsukia and Jorhat. Commissioner M.N. Dahal called MSMEs a crucial pillar of the economy, while Jason Fremstad, Senior Vice President at Walmart International, said the collaboration will help small businesses compete in the digital economy. Launched in 2019, Walmart Vriddhi has trained over 70,000 MSMEs across India.
