In anticipation of the Yaoshang festival, a preventive vaccination campaign for pets was held at the Social Workers Congress (SWC) in Khongman, with support from the Veterinary Dispensary, Akampat, Imphal East. During this event, over 40 dogs and cats received vaccines aimed at protecting them from potential diseases, emphasizing the importance of public health and animal safety during the festive season.
The Yaoshang festival typically sees increased activity in local playgrounds, where children and youth engage in various sports and cultural activities. Young participants often visit households to collect ‘Nakhadeng,’ a traditional part of the celebration. Given the anticipated rise in outdoor activities and community interactions, the vaccination initiative was implemented to reduce health risks and foster a safer festive atmosphere for both residents and their pets.
Organisers have expressed optimism that these preventive measures will lead to a joyful and incident-free Yaoshang celebration in the community.
