Four militants arrested in Manipur, weapons seized

In a major security operation, Manipur Police arrested four active militants from different proscribed groups on March 27, intensifying efforts to curb insurgent activities in the region. The arrests were made in multiple districts during targeted security operations.

One of the arrested individuals, Leishangthem Hiran Singh (40) of Koutruk Ching Leikai, Maibam Chingmang, was identified as an active cadre of the Kangleipak Communist Party (People’s War Group). He was allegedly involved in extortion activities, particularly targeting the public and brickfield workers in Thinungei Makha Leikai, Bishnupur. A mobile phone and a Jio SIM card were recovered from him.

In another operation, police apprehended Likmabam Amujao Meitei (27), a resident of Keibi Awang Leikai, Imphal East, who was an active member of the KCP-PSC (Politburo Standing Committee) group. He was arrested near the FCI Godown on Sawombung Pourabi Road in Imphal East district.

Additionally, security forces arrested two suspected cadres of KCP (Taibanganba) from Langthabal Khunou in Thoubal district. They were identified as Loitongbam Boyai Singh (45) of Wangoo Ahallup Mayai Leikai and Khumanthem Dhanabir Singh (28) of Churachandpur.

During the operations, security forces dismantled a militant bunker at Ponlen in Kangpokpi district and burnt the remnants to prevent reuse.

Extensive search operations were also conducted in vulnerable areas across the hill and valley districts. Police recovered a cache of arms and ammunition, including:

Two SLR rifles with loaded magazines, two INSAS rifles with magazines, two SMG carbines, and eight bulletproof plates from a vacant government quarter at Langol Housing Complex, Imphal West.

One .303 rifle with magazine, ammunition, and 12-bore cartridges from the hill range of Haotak Awang Leikai under Kumbi Police Station, Bishnupur.

Three INSAS rifles, two SLR rifles, and several magazines and rifle ceilings from Chingdong Leikai, Jiribam.

Manipur Police, along with security forces, continue to conduct area domination exercises to prevent insurgent activities. Authorities have reiterated their commitment to maintaining law and order across the state.
