Former Manipur CM Travels to Delhi as Speculation Grows Over Govt Restoration

Former Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh traveled to New Delhi on Friday, igniting speculation about a potential return to a popular government in Manipur as President’s Rule approaches its end next month. Singh, who leads the BJP legislature party, hinted to the media at Imphal airport that his visit is related to elections. Currently, intense discussions are taking place in the state to potentially establish a popular government, which has been under President’s Rule since February 13, 2025. Additionally, A Sharda Devi, the President of the Manipur BJP, has also departed for the national capital. The anticipation surrounding these developments is heightened because President’s Rule is set to expire next month, prompting political circles to speculate about the possible reinstatement of a popular government without further extension of central rule. This situation follows a meeting in New Delhi last month, where central BJP leaders convened all party MLAs from the state, transcending community affiliations. The majority of BJP legislators were present at this meeting, which has amplified the expectations of government formation in Manipur. While no official announcements have been made yet, Singh’s trip to New Delhi seems to be propelling discussions about the state’s future political trajectory.
