For 2025–2026, the Nagaland Power Department suggests raising electricity rates by 5%

The Department of Power Nagaland (DoPN) has once again suggested raising electricity rates. For the fiscal year 2025–2026, the DoPN sent the Nagaland energy Regulatory Commission (NERC) its yearly “Tariff Proposal” to update the current energy rate on December 17, 2024. Along with the proposal, the “Aggregate Revenue Requirement” (ARR) for the “5-Year Multi-Year Tariff” (MYT) was presented. After that, on January 30, the DoPN made the announcement public, as reported in the news, and asked for consumer comments and objections by February 10, 2025.

The department has suggested a 5 percent increase in the domestic postpaid category, which represents the vast majority of customers. According to the current 2024–25 rate, a “Domestic” customer who was paying Rs 1987.5 for 300 units per month will have to spend Rs 2087.5 for the same amount of use in 2025–2026.

Customers in the “bulk” category would pay Rs 2280 for 300 units, compared to Rs 2175 under the current system. The “Bulk” category includes customers that share an independent or private distribution transformer and reside in rental apartment buildings. 300 units served as the baseline for comparing the costs in these two groups. Consumers in the industrial postpaid category will now have to pay Rs 46,700 instead of Rs 44,325 for 6000 units per month.
