FOGSI is implementing a quality care initiative in Manipur’s maternity hospitals

The Federation of Obstetric and Gynecological Societies of India (FOGSI) held an event on April 29 to promote the implementation of a State Saturation approach to improve private maternity care facilities in Manipur. Reaffirming its commitment to addressing the high maternal mortality rates (MMR) in the state, FOGSI has enrolled over 66% of maternity facilities in Manipur under the Manyata initiative. Nine maternity facilities received Manyata certification, enhancing maternal health outcomes. Over 170 healthcare staff members were upskilled, resulting in safer deliveries for over 2500 women across the state, marking a significant milestone.

Manyata is FOGSI’s quality improvement and certification initiative, ensuring consistent, safe, and respectful care for mothers during and after childbirth. The organization encourages the use of evidence-based clinical standards aligned with the World Health Organization’s quality care standards for maternal health during pregnancy, intrapartum, and postpartum.

The event featured state government representatives, FOGSI leaders, and practicing obstetricians and gynecologists from Manipur. Manyata’s National Convenor and Past President at FOGSI, Dr. Hema Divakar said, “The progress seen through Manyata in Manipur is truly inspiring and underscores our commitment to elevating healthcare for all women.”
