Flood panic grips Brahmaputra-Jinjirim basin as water levels surge

Staff members of Angel Children Hospital and Vaccination Centre, along with local residents of Uripok Achom Leikai, organized a sit-in protest today to condemn a recent gun attack on the hospital premises. Addressing the media during the protest, Samurailatpam Modhubala, a protester, expressed deep concern over the unfortunate incident where unknown miscreants attacked the hospital located in Uripok Achom Leikai, Imphal West. The incident, which occurred during OPD hours, has instilled fear among staff, patients, and local residents, she stated. “If any innocent person had been hit by the bullets fired during the attack, who would take responsibility?” she questioned.

Dr. Naorem Yaikhomba Khuman, MD of Angel Children Hospital, described the gun attack as highly unfortunate, especially considering the hospital’s recent establishment just two years ago. He emphasized the hospital’s commitment to serving the community, even amid ongoing crises, by providing affordable healthcare and conducting health camps in relief camps.

The attack, which took place on July 4 evening, saw unknown persons firing two rounds at the hospital’s reception counter, damaging the glass. Imphal Police Station swiftly responded to the incident, conducting preliminary investigations and registering a case for further inquiry.
