Flipkart, West Bengal government empower artisans in Kalna to go digital with e-commerce workshop

Flipkart and the Government of West Bengal hosted a dedicated workshop in Kalna to promote digital entrepreneurship. Held under the ongoing MoU between the two entities, the event aimed to bridge the digital divide by educating over 50 participants on accessing Flipkart’s e-commerce platform. Key government officials including Shri Shubham Aggarwal, SDO Kalna; Shri Krishna Chandra Munda, Deputy Magistrate Kalna; and representatives from handloom and khadi boards attended the session. The workshop provided comprehensive insights on product listing, logistics, and business expansion, with a strong focus on Flipkart’s Samarth initiative.

Rajneesh Kumar, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer, Flipkart Group, commented on the collaboration, saying,“Our partnership with the Government of West Bengal underscores Flipkart’s dedication to promoting digital inclusivity across India. Through this collaboration, we aim to unlock greater economic opportunities for artisans in Kalna, nurturing a new generation of entrepreneurs empowered by technology. The Samarth program is rooted in the vision of bridging the digital divide for underserved communities – enabling them to build sustainable livelihoods through e-commerce. By providing guidance, resources, and support, Flipkart is committed to integrating rural enterprises into the larger narrative of India’s economic growth.”

the workshop presents new growth avenues for local artisans traditionally reliant on limited offline sales. With Flipkart offering broader national access, Durgapur’s handloom and handicraft producers now have the potential to scale beyond regional constraints and diversify income sources. Since its inception in 2019, Flipkart Samarth has been instrumental in transforming rural enterprises, partnering with multiple state governments to uplift MSMEs and grassroots artisans across India.
