On July 21, 2023, a fire broke out at Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited’s (ONGC) Rig SKP-150-II in the Geleky area of Sivasagar district. The incident took place at approximately 1450 hrs. ONGC activated its emergency response protocols and fire tenders rushed to douse the fire.
The Experts from Regional Crisis Management Team and experts were mobilized to contain the emergency situation. ONGC Assam Asset firefighters quickly extinguished the fire, preventing any loss of life or injuries. The fire was brought under control by 1617 hours, and the well site is now under constant observation by experts.
No injuries have been reported to ONGC personnel or its business partner. ONGC is grateful for the support from the local administration and the concern expressed by the local population. The cause of the incident is under investigation.
