“Fabulous Singer” Remembered: Pushparani Huidrom Receives Praise from Sonu Nigam Decades After TV Debut

Nearly three decades after a young girl from Manipur appeared on the popular music show Sa Re Ga Ma, her performance has once again come into public discussion. This time, it is singer Sonu Nigam who has brought her back into the spotlight.Nigam recently shared an old photograph on Facebook and wrote about Pushparani Huidrom, who had taken part in the show in 1997 as a child contestant. In his post, he described her as a “fabulous singer” and said she had impressed everyone present on the show at that time.

He also recalled that legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar had appreciated the young contestant’s voice. His post drew attention because it brought back memories of an early phase of Indian television music shows, when many young talents from different parts of the country were first introduced to a wider audience.Reflecting on those years, Nigam mentioned that he had seen the early talent of singers like Shreya Ghoshal and Sunidhi Chauhan, who later became leading playback singers. He added that he clearly remembered Pushparani’s performance and expressed hope that she continues to make Manipur proud.

Pushparani Huidrom, who is now a singer based in Manipur, responded to the post with gratitude. She said she felt honoured to be remembered after so many years and described her time on the show as one of the most special moments of her life. She also shared that the photograph posted by Nigam had been taken by filmmaker Lakshmipriya Devi.
