East Garo Hills Police Recover Huge Cache of Arms from Jungle

East Garo Hills Police team conducted a Special Operation in a dense jungle near Dura Bawegre village, East Garo Hills during wee hours on the eve of Republic Day and recovered a large pile of weapons, ammunition, IED, explosives, buried underground at the location by suspected militants. Official sources said that the police team, comprising the Superintendent of Police, Additional Superintendent of Police, Officers and SOT of East Garo Hills DEF, Williamnagar, made the recovery of the arms around 1am on Sunday based on credible information. The recovery comprised an AK-56 Rifle; one AK Magazine; three pistols with two magazines; One Double Barrel Country made rifle along with one country made trigger mechanism; 99 rounds of AK 7.62 live ammunition, live electric detonators, shotgun cartridges and an IED that was defused the Bomb Squad of East Garo Hills District Police. Sources said that the arms and ammunition could have been hidden underground by suspected former cadres of the GNLA and ULFA.
