The decision to move the match was driven by fervent requests from supporters of both teams, who wanted the game played in Shillong, a stronghold for both clubs. The rescheduling to August 26 allows the organizers to accommodate this change, ensuring that the local fans can experience the high-stakes clash in their home turf.
The Durand Cup Organizing Committee announced, “In response to overwhelming requests from supporters of both teams, and recognizing the traditional significance of Shillong as a football stronghold, we have decided to relocate the semifinal to Shillong and reschedule it to August 26.”
