A coordination meeting held on September 2, 2024, brought together officials from the Nagaland State Transport Department, Dimapur District Administration, and Northeast Frontier Railways (NFR) to discuss the modernization of Dimapur Railway Station. The meeting focused on transforming Dimapur into a world-class railway station, as part of a broader initiative involving 508 stations across India. The ambitious project, with an allocated budget of ₹283 crore, aims to upgrade passenger amenities and improve traffic circulation.
State Transport Secretary Robert Longchari highlighted that the discussions centered on NFR’s development plans and the persistent issue of land encroachment around the station. Longchari noted that the state government is addressing this long-standing problem and has encouraged NFR to commence development works with full support. Deputy Commissioner Dr. Tinojongshi Chang, who led the district administration, shared that a detailed survey of the encroached lands is planned to resolve the issue. The survey will address the 91 encroachers identified in the vicinity of the railway station.
The modernization project includes advanced facilities and a revamped layout to enhance the passenger experience. The tendering process for the transformation is nearing completion, with construction expected to begin by the end of October or early November. Additionally, officials visited Dimapur Airport to discuss ongoing and future projects, ensuring alignment with broader regional development goals.
