In a significant political move, K. Ranjit Singh, a senior Congress leader and MLA from Sugnu AC, has resigned as Deputy Leader of the Congress Legislative Party (CLP) in the Manipur Legislative Assembly. Ranjit submitted his resignation to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, acknowledging the honor of serving the party and expressing gratitude for the trust placed in him. The Congress party has seen a recent leadership change, appointing former Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh as the head of its Manipur unit and Keishampat Meghachandra as the new CLP leader, with Singh continuing as the CLP leader. Other leadership appointments include Victor Keishing and Manga Vaiphei as working presidents, Md. Fajur Rahim as treasurer, and Th. Lokeshwar Singh and Moirangthem Okendro as chairpersons of the campaign and election committees, respectively. Notably, Ranjit was first elected to the Manipur Legislative Assembly on a BJP ticket in 2000 and previously served as Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare as well as General Administration Department (GAD).
