Chumoukedima Deputy Commissioner (DC) Polan John has issued a stern warning against activities near National Highway 29 (NH-29) that pose significant risks to public safety and the highway’s structural stability.
The DC highlighted that activities such as quarrying, earth cutting, construction, and setting up temporary stalls within the highway’s Right of Way (RoW) are contributing to soil erosion, landslides, and potential blockades. These hazards also increase the likelihood of subsidence, encroachments, and accidents, endangering the lives of commuters and the durability of the highway.
All individuals, village councils, and stakeholders have been strongly urged to cease any activities that could compromise NH-29’s safety and stability. The DC emphasized full cooperation to maintain the highway’s integrity and prevent life-threatening incidents.
