The Mega Sundays on Cycle – International Women’s Day Special was held at Khuman Lampak Sports Complex in Imphal, organized by the Sports Authority of India, North-East Regional Centre (SAI NERC) as part of the nationwide Fit India Movement. The event gathered over a thousand participants, including athletes, dignitaries, students, and members of the public, to promote fitness and active living in celebration of International Women’s Day.
Notable attendees included the Hon’ble Home Minister of Manipur and Minister of Youth Affairs, Shri Konthoujam Govindas, along with high-ranking officials from the state sports administration, such as the Sports Secretary and the Director of Youth Affairs and Sports in Manipur, as well as Shri N. Lokendra Singh, the Vice Chancellor of Manipur University. The event also featured several acclaimed sports figures from Manipur, including Padmashree and Arjuna Awardee Smt. Nameirakpam Kunjarani Devi and other distinguished athletes like Smt. Laishram Sarita Devi, Smt. Ngambam Sonia Chanu, Smt. Wangkhem Sandhyarani, and the emerging Wushu talent Smt. Naorem Roshibina Devi Chanu.
Among the special invitees were prestigious figures including Shri Leishangthem Ibomcha, a Dronacharya Awardee; officials from the CRPF; renowned actor Smt. Medha; and various others contributing to the sports community. This initiative celebrated the significance of sports and fitness in empowering communities, particularly highlighting the increased participation of women and youth in physical activities.
Additionally, the Mega Sundays on Cycle event marked the commencement of the Fit India Carnival, set to take place in Imphal on March 9 and 10, 2026, at Hapta Kangjeibung, Palace Compound. The upcoming carnival will feature a variety of fitness sessions, activity zones, showcases of traditional sports, and cultural performances designed for public engagement.
