Curfew Extended in West Garo Hills

Curfew in the West Garo Hills district of Meghalaya has been extended until 6 am on Sunday due to ongoing violence, with a temporary relaxation period from 9 am to 3 pm on Saturday for essential shopping. This curfew follows the deaths of two individuals resulting from unrest linked to a contentious notification that restricts non-tribal individuals from participating in elections for the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC). Meanwhile, in the East Garo Hills district, the curfew remains in effect until further notice. Army forces have been deployed to help restore order amidst the turmoil. Although there have been no recent reports of violence, the situation is gradually stabilizing, thanks in part to the vigilance of security personnel.
