CTAN, NNQF demand justice in faculty hiring protest

The Combined Technical Association of Nagaland (CTAN) and the Nagaland NET Qualified Forum (NNQF) have announced a mass protest on Thursday, April 24, in Kohima against what they call the “unjust and non-meritorious” regularisation of 147 Assistant Professors and Librarians in the state’s Higher Education Department.

The protest follows the Nagaland Cabinet’s April 21 decision to form a review committee to examine the controversial absorption order issued on December 17, 2024. CTAN and NNQF have outrightly rejected the move, claiming it is a delay tactic that bypasses the core demand for fair and transparent recruitment through the Nagaland Public Service Commission (NPSC).

Despite staging a prior three-day peaceful demonstration, the associations say their voices were ignored. “Right-thinking citizens” have been urged to join Thursday’s rally, which begins at 9:00 am at the Nagaland Secretariat and will culminate in a peaceful sit-in at the Directorate of Higher Education. The charter of demands includes the immediate cancellation of the regularisation order, dissolution of the review committee, and requisition of all contractual teaching and librarian posts (appointed after June 6, 2016) to the NPSC. A memorandum of demands was to be submitted to the Chief Secretary on April 22 but will now be delivered on April 23 after officials said he was unavailable.
