Concentrate on improving training for skill growth

A training program on “Mushroom Cultivation and Beekeeping (Apiculture)” was conducted at the Community Hall in Serou Mayai Leikai as part of livelihood restoration initiatives for rehabilitated Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs). The event was organized by the District Officer of Horticulture and Soil Conservation in Thoubal, along with the Sub-Divisional Officer of Waikhong in Kakching District. Notable attendees included Arvind Hanglem, IAS, as the chief guest, Supreme Thongam from the District Collector’s office, and Kh. Malemnganba Meitei, the district officer of Horticulture and Soil Conservation, who presided over the program.

Akoijam Ratankumar Singh, a Senior Scientist from ICAR, lectured on mushroom cultivation, while P. Bhumika, an Assistant Professor at Central Agricultural University, addressed the topic of beekeeping. Arvind Hanglem emphasized the significance of skill development and training in fostering sustainable livelihoods, referencing the experiences of displaced persons. He also underscored the importance of inter-departmental collaboration to ensure that government benefits reach those in need.

Supreme Thongam detailed the District Administration Kakching’s commitment to delivering departmental services throughout the district, particularly targeting public and IDP support. He mentioned logistical support for mushroom spawn procurement and ongoing assistance for those interested in mushroom farming. Kh. Malemnganba Meitei provided comprehensive insights into various government schemes designed to aid individuals in mushroom cultivation and beekeeping, ensuring that follow-up support and logistical aid would be accessible for those pursuing these agricultural activities.
