Cockroach scare on Air India flight from San Francisco to Mumbai upsets passengers

A few uninvited and uncontrolled people were on board an Air India trip from San Francisco to Mumbai, causing a disturbance for other passengers. Two Air India passengers found that the “unticketed” passengers were actually cockroaches. In a statement, the airlines acknowledged their blunder and explained that “insects can sometimes enter an aircraft during ground operations. “The two passengers were moved to different seats in the same cabin to ensure their comfort during the flight, according to the airline. The event apparently occurred on aircraft AI180, which flew from San Francisco to Mumbai via Kolkata. According to an Air India statement, two passengers were “unfortunately” upset by the presence of a “few small cockroaches on board” during the first leg of the journey, which was from Delhi to Kolkata.

To ensure a comfortable ride, the guests were relocated to other seats in the same cabin. The service provider reported that a thorough cleaning operation was conducted in Kolkata during a prearranged fuel stop. “During the flight’s planned fuel stop in Kolkata, our ground staff immediately conducted a thorough cleaning to resolve the issue. The same flight departed on schedule for Mumbai,” the airline stated. Though the airlines admitted their error and apologized for “any inconvenience caused to the passengers,” they trivialized the situation by stating, “Despite our regular fumigation efforts, insects can sometimes enter an aircraft during ground operations.”

An inquiry into the occurrence has been ordered to discover the source and origin, as well as to put in place further safeguards to prevent a repeat. The incident follows the cancellation of a Delhi-bound Air India flight from Bhubaneswar on Sunday owing to “high temperature” in the aircraft cabin prior to takeoff.
