CM Rio announces Nagaland has the highest urban population growth rate in India

Nagaland has had the greatest urban population growth rate in India, reaching 66.7%, according to Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio. At the Naga Shopping Arcade, he delivered the comment during the opening of the renovated Dimapur Town Hall (DTH). Rio also emphasized how vital it is to address the state’s rapidly increasing urbanization. According to World Bank projections, 68% of the world’s population would reside in urban areas by 2050, Rio highlighted the global trend of urbanization. He went on to say that India is going through a similar transition, with more people living in cities than in rural areas by the middle of the century.

Rio highlighted Nagaland’s increasing rural-to-urban migration and the pressing need for infrastructure modernization and urban development to accommodate the region’s expanding population. Once chaotic and in poor condition, the renovated Dimapur Town Hall is now a shining model of infrastructure regeneration. The hall was built 24 years ago, but neglect had caused it to become unusable. Rio expressed gratitude to everyone participating in the remodeling project, including the DAN of the Urban Development Department, all contractors, and other state agencies.

Rio also acknowledged the success of the ULB elections, which were held in all 25 centers of the state. Pastor Kilang Longkumer of Nukmen Baptist Church gave the invocation, DAN Chairman Dr. Watizulu Süzümeren gave the keynote address, and Deputy Commissioner Dimapur, Dr. Tinojongshi Chang, gave a vote of gratitude. A cultural performance by the Task Force for Music & Arts (TaFMA), which showcased the state’s rich cultural legacy, added even more significance to the event.
