A joint river cleaning initiative was conducted by the Palem Panthou Village Level Federation in collaboration with EcoNetwork Manipur, focusing on the removal of waste and plastic from the Heirok Wangjing River in the Heirok Part-I area. EcoNetwork Manipur President Shinthangamba Laishram emphasized the need for community involvement, urging locals to cease dumping household waste into the river and to support proper waste collection practices. He encouraged residents to utilize household waste collection services rather than discarding waste into water bodies. This effort, supported by Self Help Groups under the Manipur State Rural Livelihood Mission, aimed to restore the river’s cleanliness through sustained community participation. The organizers called for responsible behavior from citizens to prevent waste disposal in the river, emphasizing the importance of preserving clean and safe water for future generations.
